Marcus Wikström has taken up a position as a business developer at Järnmalmer. Marcus joins along with his big brother Christoffer and together the duo from Lerum will work actively to identify and develop new business opportunities and strengthen the stream of iron and metal scrap into the organization.
Welcome to Järnmalmer Marcus. How does it feel?
It feels good, something I’ve been looking forward to for a long time.
What are your short- and long-term goals in your job at Järnmalmer?
I would say to get into the business as quickly as possible and always keep my ears to the ground.
In the long term, I want to create good, strong business relationships, and have a stable, positive curve in terms of personal development.
What was your background before you started your journey at Järnmalmer?
I previously worked as an electrician in Göteborg where I oversaw some of the projects I worked on.
What will be the biggest challenge of working with your big brother?
I don’t see it as a challenge – we’re quite similar and share the same values. We were previously involved in ice hockey together and much more. It worked well. I think it strengthens our ties. I see it as a fantastic opportunity to also have a strong mentor along with me on this journey.
How would you describe yourself as a person?
Tough question. I’m generous, driven, and sociable. I often have a lot of irons in the fire which is challenging but fun. It drives me forward and I like the challenges that come with it. Sometimes it is a bit difficult to say no, and you end up spending a whole day at IKEA for example. But joking aside, I’m a driven man and a bit restless and if I set myself a goal, I must achieve it.
What makes you happy at work?
My colleagues and a pleasant working environment. It’s important to see the difference between a colleague and a friend, but you can mix the two and make the best of your day.
Recycling is an industry of the future. How do you think about environmental issues yourself? What environmental initiatives do you take at home?
It’s extremely important. To move on in life, there must be something to build on. At home, we make this simple by having our own recycling centre. It’s not difficult to sort stuff and take it with you when you use your car. Carpooling or commuting on public transport is a priority. I think a lot of people need to review their habits and routines if there is to be something to inherit.
If you were stranded on a desert island for 1 year, what 3 things would you take with you?
1 Some form of water filtration
2 A fishing rod
3 A fire lighter
What is a good deal for you?
When you get something more than just a financial deal and both parties feel that they have gone further by collaborating. That both parties are happy.
What are your hobbies?
Golf is probably top of my list right now and will probably be so for a long time to come. I’ve always been interested in sport, so I follow that. I appreciate watching a good film with my partner as well as an evening at home with good food.
What do you look forward to most about your new job as a business developer at Järnmalmer?
The opportunity to learn something new and develop over time. This is an industry that is getting bigger and more important every day and it will be fun to be a part of it. I immediately felt that I was here to stay. I’ve received an extremely warm welcome and I’m looking forward to what’s to come.
Your brother chose Bamse as his biggest fictional hero, which is yours?
Iron Man. He’s successful and a tech nerd, a bit like me. (Sarcasm)
